The good news is that this is definitely the last volume of the Clifton Chronicles (as if you'd need to be told this after reading the title of this volume). There's no cliffhanger ending, and all the loose threads have been tied off, including the big one - whether Harry Clifton and Emma Barrington are brother and sister (and they'd committed incest in marrying) or not.The cliffhanger ending of the previous novel proceeded more or less as expected in this one, so there weren't any surprises.Jeffrey Archer could have done with a proofreader of the quality Harry Clifton enjoyed in this novel. Some of the medical details he includes are just wrong, and even if they were, events wouldn't have happened the way described (I won't reveal the details in case it's a spoiler). Anyway - a Sotheby's auctioneer would never refer to the Emperor Jiaqing (Jiaqing is the name of an era, not a person). It's the Jiaqing Emperor.It's a very satisfying series. In a few years, I'll probably go back and reread them, one after the other (it's actually the best way of reading them - not having to wait a year for each new one to be published). I live in a city in Florida that was right in the path of Hurricane Irma. Saturday we prepared all day. The storm was coming soon. I went to bed that night and made it my goal to finish this book! That should tell Jeffrey Archer how much I enjoyed this series! I didn't care about Irma. I needed to get back to Harry, Giles and Emma!This book is the end of the line so there is some sadness, but it's a good ending too. All the bad guys get what's coming to them and the good guys persevere despite everything! There are some casualties along the way, but that's life...Overall it was fun and I tore through these 7 books pretty quickly. I will be reading more Jeffrey Archer books!
